CHALLENGEFAMILY to Host World’s First Screening of ‘We Are Triathletes Feature Film’

CHALLENGEFAMILY is proud to announce that the film We Are Triathletes will be shown exclusively during two of their races, even before the film’s official wide release in August 2018. The first ever public screening will be on June 1st, during THECHAMPIONSHIP at the x-bionic sphere® in Samorín, Slovakia. Four weeks later a special viewing will be organized during DATEV CHALLENGEROTH.

We Are Triathletes is the first ever feature-length documentary for the big screen on the sport of triathlon and shows the inspiring journey of six triathletes training and preparing for the largest classic long distance triathlon in the world: DATEV CHALLENGEROTH in Germany. The film directed by Yanfeng Zhang, is executive produced by Ironman Hall of Famer Bob Babbitt and is co-produced by Gwendolen Twist who produced the award-winning documentaries Spirit of the Marathon and Spirit of the Marathon II. It follows 6 long-distance triathletes including world champion Mirinida Cafrae, and iconic Luke McKenzie, Rudy Garcia-Tolson, as well as Roth’s race director Felix Walchshoefer.

Director and multiple long-distance triathlon finisher Yanfeng Zhang aims to inspire the broader audience with this documentary. “We really want to showcase the spirit of this endurance sport to the world and hope more and more people will participate in it.”

“When I first got into the sport of triathlon back in 1978, I knew immediately that my life was changed forever,” says Executive Producer Bob Babbitt. “What makes this film so special is that we take the audience inside the lives of six athletes as they prepare and race Challenge Roth, one of the world’s most spectacular events.”

The initial public screenings will take place exclusively during THECHAMPIONSHIP on June 1 and 2, at 20.00h, where athletes and friends can relax in the bean bags of the Tuli Cinema. A special guest during the evening screenings will be one of the films main characters: ‘the blade-athlete’ Rudy Garcia-Tolson, who will attend a meet and greet at the cinema, and also racing THECHAMPIONSHIP.

On June 13th, a special screening will be held at the Challenged Athletes Foundation in San Diego, California, the birthplace of modern time triathlon. Another exclusive opportunity to watch We Are Triathletes will be on June 28th, when the film will be screened open-air style at the Triathlon Expo in Roth during the festival week of DATEV CHALLENGEROTH. The official global release in theaters will follow in early August through Demand Film (https://us.demand.film/we-are-triathletes/). “ We are thrilled to be working with Yan and Bob to bring this fantastic film to enthusiastic audiences around the world”, says Andrew Hazelton, Executive Vice President of Demand Film.
