Frederic Funk can’t wait for THECHAMPIONSHIP: ‘Focus will be on more race specific training sessions…’

It will be Frederic Funk’s first time at THECHAMPIONSHIP this year and at only 21 years old, Funk is probably the youngest starter on the pro list. A couple of months ago, he was aiming for a top 10 position on June 2nd, but depending on how his first races go, he’s optimistic that he could possibly even achive a top 5 finish.

It’s quite ambitious, but Funk can look back on a good winter period. ,,My preparations over the winter months have gone very well and I’m excited about THECHAMPIONSHIP in two months time. I’m very optimistic to achieve a top 10 position in such a world-class field but maybe a top 5 finish could also be on the cards. This will depend on how my first race of the season at CHALLENGERICCIONE will go. For the two months leading up to Samorin, I will get to used to the time trial position and do more race specific training sessions.”

While Funk is aiming for the best result possible, he also wants to gain as much experience as he can. ,,I want to do the best I can and get as close to the world’s best athletes as possible. But simply gaining experience will help me to come back here more often in years to come and do better and better. I really want to improve year after year.”

It’s only Funk’s second season as a pro, but the German athlete has put on a number of great performances already, including a third place at CHALLENGERICCIONE, third place at CHALLENGEFORTE-VILLAGE and second place at CHALLENGEKAISERWINKL-WALCHSEE. ,,For this year, THECHAMPIONSHIP is definitely a race highlight of the season.”
